When I used to play this game a lot, I had 6 GB in my system. Can you tell me the version you see on the loading/main menu screen? I have version 2.65.2 build 1837. I bought this game from Deep Silver/Ascaron in 2009. I wonder if you play the same version as I had. Depending on your GPU and system type (32 or 64 bit) your "mileage may vary" as they say.

Like I said in the first post, I enjoyed this game even though it suffer from frequent crashing.

The game should be more stable but you will see a lot of "stuttering" if you have a slow disk system. Browse to the section that starts with "if not manager then." and set all Mem related parameters values to 1. The "options.txt" file is located under ":\Users\\AppData\Local\Ascaron Entertainment\Sacred 2\". Finally, for those inclined in advanced tweaking, there are a few settings you can change in the game config file. Moving around a lot or teleporting worsen the problem. You can get a pretty stable gaming experience if you stick to the same region in game. There are also a console command you can use to "clean the memory cache".

Like "Nidhoggr" said, ALT-TABing every now and then helps because it force the game to release some of it's memory pool. You will realize that if you watch memory usage as you play, the closer you get to 1.3 ~ 1.4 GB, the closer you get to your next crash.

The game, like a vast majority of programs, is a 32 bit application which means it cannot use more than roughly 3GB or memory. System RAM amount is not a factor as far as crashing problems are concerned. From what I have experienced with Sacred 2, the more memory you got on your GPU the sooner it will crash.
